Australian research is introducing a new platform to offer government and industry the opportunity to gain direct access to new technology based product and service opportunities arising from the country’s leading research organisations. Under the banner of the research sector’s peak body for commercialisation – Knowledge Commercialisation Australasia (KCA) – representatives from six public research organisations will present innovative solutions to mining industry executives from around the globe as part of a specially formatted partnering session at the Austmine 2015 Conference in Brisbane.
“KCA is pleased to work with Austmine to showcase to the mining services sector some of the ways in which business and industry can tap into the wide range of skills, knowledge and technologies available through public sector research,” said Rohan McDougall, Vice-Chair of KCA and Director of Commercialisation at Curtin University.
“Applying research expertise to real world problems leads to improvements in productivity, policy and social/environmental outcomes. Researchers can offer a unique perspective which affords a business partner potential for competitive advantage. KCA is looking at ways to promote this type of collaboration and increase positive outcomes. If the format of this event proves successful, KCA plans to bring the business sector more such opportunities focused around areas of national priority and strength.”
Peter Clarke, ex CEO Scanalyse & Business Development Manager, Outotec and previous Austmine Director, concurs as to the opportunities which exist for business and research working together. “Mining equipment, technology and service providers who want to stay ahead of the game and develop innovative new products and services should not miss this half day workshop [incorporated into the format of the Austmine 2015 Conference in Brisbane]. The billions of dollars invested into public sector R&D is a largely untapped resource of potential new product and services. I’d strongly encourage you to come and learn about opportunities available now and how to access them.”
Providing support for this first event are the Department of Industry and Science and RSM Bird Cameron, a full service national accounting firm delivering expert corporate financial and advisory accounting services to clients across diverse industry sectors.
